Licensure
Telehealth is designed to eliminate geographical barriers for seeing a patient. This opens up the entire country for physicians depending on current medical licensure, as the physician must be licensed in the state the patient is located.
There are some exceptions where states recognize a physician’s medical license status on a temporary bases when seeing a patient. For example, your patient is on vacation out of state, however, to see patients in another state - on a regular basis - you will need a medical license for that state.
If you are looking for large volumes of patients, you may want to acquire licensure in and focus on employers in California, Florida, New Jersey, New York, or Texas, which have large population centers. If treating patients in small rural areas is your calling, telehealth can be your path to success without having to relocate.
Another opportunity for physicians is the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, which includes 26 states that have agreements between their state medical boards regarding licensure to eliminate barriers and excess paperwork. ViTel is the only telehealth recruiter that also provides professional credentialing services.
