Jonathan Hall, MD, has been on the path of medicine since he was five years old and his grandmother told him he would be a doctor. Dr. Hall went on to graduate medical school in 1982 and practiced medicine until he retired at the beginning of 2022. ViTel’s Doug Sumaraga interviews Dr. Hall on his many years in primary care practice and internal medicine, how the field and his role changed over time, and the impact of transitioning from paper to computer records in 2006.

Jonathan Hall, MD

Jonathan Hall, MD was on the path to medicine starting at age 5, after his grandmother told him he was going to be a doctor. Dr. Hall never considered another path, and graduated from Medical College of Pennsylvania, now Drexel University, in his early 20's. Following his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Kaiser [Oakland, CA], he began his career with Kaiser.  Dr. Hall went on to spent the entirety of his career - 1985 to 2021 - at Kaiser as an Attending Physician Internal Medicine [Kaiser Hayward/Union City/San Leandro/Fremont], with two decades as Chair of the Health Information Management Committee, and one decade as Quality Liaison for Outpatient Medicine Union City. Dr. Hall is now enjoying a life of leisure, after retiring from Kaiser in December 2021.

Doug Sumaraga

Doug is a serial entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience managing and developing technology firms in the Silicon Valley as CTO, COO, & CEO.  As a strategic advisor and technology consultant to several Fortune 50 companies (IBM, SAP, Apple, Adobe, Agilent, Microsoft, HP, Northrop Grumman, Boeing among them), Doug offers business acumen and technical expertise as a transformational leader, architect, and “let’s get it done” executor. 

Doug holds Biology (pre-med) and Medical Technology degrees in the Adventist Educational Health System and found his passion in technology continuing his post grad studies in Informatics and programming at UC Berkeley.
